My painting, Medusa with the Head of Perseus, is a play on the renaissance sculpture by Benvenuto Cellini, Perseus with the Head of Medusa. The renaissance period was full of creative awakening and questioning the Church. In this exploration came fascination with Ancient Greek mythology. In history, stories are usually told from the winner's perspective, placing them as the hero and erasing the humanity of the perceived villain. Historically, powerful/outspoken/intelligent women have been described as the villain in many stories by men attempting to take their power. Just as in the Renaissance period, I think today's society is coming out of a dark age and it's time for an awakening. Question the hero's of your stories. Fuck the patriarchy.
