Information

I created this holiday image in December of 2024 since Mari Lwyd (AKA Grey Mare) is a more obscure and bizarre character than Krampus. A traditional figure from South Wales, ML is a beautifully decorated, ghost-like puppet with a horse or deer skull. Since 1800, wassailers travel though villages during winter festivals accompanied by ML, which operates like a hobby horse under a sheet. I was inspired to use black, whites and greys while adding glowing, festive Christmas tree lights across the torso. I also painstakingly traced every background snowflake by hand.
