I am driven to paint. The process of painting brings me much joy, although as my mentor, Caroline Huff often said, painting is a beautiful struggle.
The portrait is my favorite subject. Some people graciously sit for me while others allow me to paint them from photos.
Current events that take place in society often inspire me to paint subjects who reflect situations at hand.
My immigrant ancestors had a toy making company. My grandfather told my siblings and me many fairy tales which encouraged my creativity.
I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D. C. This allowed me to take the bus downtown to view paintings in many galleries for hours, with free admission.
At a young age, I knew that Art was my calling.
I earned a BA with a Major in Art History from the University of Maryland, College Park, 1976. I also studied painting and drawing at Prince George's Community College, Landover, MD and The Washington Studio School, Washington DC.
I am blessed to have some wonderful mentors, Caroline Huff, an inspiring and encouraging painting teacher and later mentors, Susan Yanero and Lee Neuman.
My day job, working as a floral designer in both factory like and high-end shops pushed my creativity. For example, on one occasion a customer requested that, because his girlfriend was getting her leg cut off the next day, would I make something out of flowers that would make her feel like a woman? Another customer demanded that I make a flower arrangement that would make her boyfriend come back to her.
I am so very grateful to be able to pursue artistic endeavors.
