As if there were a single thing more appropriately Floridian than an Orange Tree Botanical Lady... she was a commission piece for a friend which I fell in love with as I drew her.
With arms outstretched and a canopy abundant, she balances tall and graceful as winds scoop her shower of foliage like a snow-globe.
Thanks to early Spanish explorers and wise native growers, Florida eventually boomed with an orange tree industry and became the state fruit. (Fun fact- oranges are technically considered berries)
I initially drew her as a lady with an orange for a head, but didn't like that she resembled a cartoon mascot - So instead, she grew branches and become an orange grove's daydream.
